It’s not all that onerous. Board Meetings are held eight months of the year, October through May, with the meetings typically the first Monday of the month at 9 a.m. Any homeowner can volunteer to host a board meeting, and all homeowners are welcome to attend. The meetings generally last less than two hours each. There is also the Annual Meeting in February which lasts about two hours. (NOTE: The basic meeting time requirement for a Board member is only 18 hours a YEAR!)
President – Presides at Board meetings, makes sure orders and resolutions are carried out, signs contracts and co-signs checks, acts as a liaison with the Green Valley Council to keep current on rules and regulations that affect HOAs. The position requires no prior experience, but communication skills are a plus.
Vice-President – Takes over President duties in the absence of the President. The position requires no prior experience, but communication skills are a plus.
Secretary – Keeps meeting minutes, records votes, sends meeting notifications and newsletters, keeps member records current, provides new homeowners/home lenders with HOA legal paperwork. The position requires no prior experience, but organizational skills are a plus. This position is the most time consuming of all Board members, so the office holder must have time available to perform necessary duties.
Treasurer – Receives and deposits HOA dues checks, signs checks (pays bills for utilities, common area maintenance, streets), keeps the accounting books, schedules an annual audit of the accounting books, prepares the annual budget. The position requires no prior experience, but basic financial skills and ability to read a simple spreadsheet are a plus.
Member at Large – The fifth voting member of the HOA Board performs duties as assigned. The position requires no prior experience.
